Unity Santa Fe Prayer Column for April 2024
In the spring of 2012, I decided to participate in the Prayer Chaplain training weekend. I didn’t have the intention of becoming a Prayer Chaplain (as they we were called then), but I looked forward to learning more about affirmative prayer and enriching my own prayer practice. It didn’t hurt that the weekend took place at the Benedictine monastery
in Pecos where we would also be able to spend some time in nature.
As the training progressed and we began to practice praying with one another, I found myself profoundly moved by the realization that being asked to pray with someone is a privilege and honor. I felt humbled by the prospect that others would come to me and entrust me with their concerns. By the end of the training, I felt a calling to join this ministry and be of greater service to my Unity community.
A few things have changed in the past couple of years. We are now called Prayer Practitioners and, instead of a “one-size fits all program”, each of us is able to choose the ways in which we feel most called to serve, but we still learn the power of affirmative prayer and how to effectively pray with others.

Prayer Practitioners Available Every Sunday and During the Week
Every Sunday, after service, you have the opportunity to pray with a Unity Prayer Practitioner in the Sanctuary or youth classroom.
You can also request to have a Prayer Practitioner call you once a month or during the week for a Private Prayer Call.
