About the Minab Lullaby Peace Concerts
We've been performing as the Irthlingz Duo for a number of years, doing concerts for peace and environmental healing. We also run the nonprofit, Irthlingz Arts-Based Environmental Education 501(c)(3), which we started in 2002. All the contributions made to this fundraiser will go through Irthlingz and are, therefore, tax-deductible! Peace concerts are very much aligned with our mission of healing the Earth, since war is very environmentally destructive.
I've been crossing paths for the last 15 years or so with an Iranian-American Sufi named Moji Agha. Moji is a peace activist and an associate member of Veterans for Peace. Several months ago, Moji approached me about helping him with a song he wrote honoring the victims, mostly children, killed in the elementary school in the city of Minab on the first day of the U.S. bombing of Iran.
The song came to him as he awoke one morning. Moji emailed me several audio files of the song and asked for my help in notating, arranging, orchestrating, and ultimately singing the song. I have written out the song in my music notation program and am working on a simple accompaniment that can be played on guitar and violin. Then I'll be working on a more extensive orchestration.
Moji has asked me to sing his “Minab Lullaby” as part of a series of live concerts to benefit his Minab School Memorial Monument for Peace project (MISMMOP). Half of the donations generated by the concerts will go to fund the creation of the memorial and have it placed in Minab. The other half will go toward covering Michael's and my travel expenses, and hopefully provide us with a stipend. But since we don't know what donations might come in at the door for the concerts, those funds are not guaranteed.
As a longtime peace educator, activist and troubadour, I'm moved to do this, and Michael is as well, but it would help a lot to know we have our expenses covered and have some financial support for this work.
The “Minab Lullaby” is a lullaby to wake people up to the horrors and injustices of war and the reality of the innocent civilians killed and injured – what the U.S. military calls “collateral damage”. It is also to wake us up to the need for empathy, love, peace, and another way to be together on this beautiful and struggling Earth.

On Feb. 27, 2027, we'll be doing a concert in Harrisonburg, VA, hosted by Eastern Mennonite University's "Music and Peacebuilding" academic program in its Music Dept. This concert will be the finale of ceremonies commemorating the first anniversary of the start of the war on Iran—which included the attack on the Minab school. I will be creating an orchestral version of the concert for this event.
Michael and I will be performing the “Minab Lullaby” in each of these peace concerts. I will be doing the vocals and violin, and Michael will be accompanying on guitar – except for the concert at the Eastern Mennonite University, which will have an orchestra to accompany the piece.

Once our travel expenses are covered, our plan is to split any remaining funds between us (Michael and myself) and the Minab monument project.
